What is the Indonesia Visa Exemption?

Indonesia visa exemption allows travelers from certain countries to enter the country without applying for a visa.

The visa exemption is for short stays: foreigners can spend up to a maximum of 30 days in Indonesia. Visa exemptions cannot be extended or substituted for a different type of Indonesian visa.

There is no Indonesia tourist visa exemption fee: eligible visitors can enter the country free of charge.

Permitted Visa-Free Activities in Indonesia

Visa-free travel to Indonesia is allowed for the following purposes:

  • Tourism
  • Visiting family
  • Social activities
  • Government official visits
  • Purchase of goods
  • Meetings at company headquarter or Indonesia representative office
  • Transit through Indonesia

An Indonesian visa is required to engage in activities not listed above.

Which Countries Can Enter Indonesia Without Visa?

Citizens of 9 countries can visit Indonesia short-term without a visa:

  • Brunei Darussalam
  • Cambodia
  • Laos
  • Malaysia
  • Myanmar
  • The Philippines
  • Singapore
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam

Travelers who are not from one of the Indonesia visa-free countries listed above need to apply for an entry permit, even for short stays.

Requirements for Visa-Free Entry to Indonesia

To travel to Indonesia without a visa, visitors need:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of arrival in Indonesia
  • Return or onward flight/travel tickets

With the exception of COVID-19 regulations, there are no vaccine requirements to travel to Indonesia without a visa, although some are recommended.
